Spreads · A guide for reflection
Relationship Spread
The Relationship spread uses six perspectives to explore a connection without claiming access to another person's private thoughts. Read every position through your experience, observable interactions, and questions you can discuss respectfully. Connection and tension can coexist; the spread does not grade the relationship or decide whether it should continue. A constructive next step might be a conversation, a clearer boundary, or appropriate support. If there is a serious concern about safety, address the real situation through suitable human help rather than waiting for a card to validate it.

Best for
Reflecting on your experience of a connection, communication, and boundaries.
Before you begin
- Choose a specific question about your own choices or understanding.
- Decide whether to include reversals before drawing.
- Draw one unique card for each numbered position and record its orientation.
Position guide
The numbered tiles are a reading-order key. Lay the cards in a simple row or a layout that works for you, keeping each position attached to its question.
Your perspective
Explore your feelings, expectations, and assumptions about the connection. Keep this position about your own experience.
The relationship dynamic
Consider a pattern in actual interactions. The card cannot reveal the other person's secret intentions or diagnose their character.
Connection
Notice a quality, shared value, or action that supports connection. Check whether it is experienced and welcomed by both people.
Tension
Name a difference or unmet expectation worth discussing. Avoid treating a difficult image as proof of betrayal or inevitable separation.
Communication
Consider how to ask, listen, or express a boundary more clearly. A useful conversation leaves room for an answer you do not control.
Constructive next step
Identify an action within your choices that respects consent and actual circumstances. The spread cannot prescribe the other person's response.
A hypothetical reading example
Hypothetical example: Queen of Cups and Two of Cups invite listening and reciprocity; Three of Cups highlights friendship; Five of Wands suggests differing preferences. Ace of Swords and Strength support a clear, gentle conversation. No card establishes what the other person feels.
Interpretation tips
- Describe observable interactions before interpreting motives.
- Read the next step as an option you can choose, not an instruction for someone else.
Journal prompts
- What do I know from actual interaction?
- What need could I express clearly?
- What boundary would make the next step respectful?
