Begin with a role, not a person
The court cards are Page, Knight, Queen, and King in each of the four suits. A useful first approach is to read them as ways of engaging: exploring, pursuing, tending, and directing. These are optional learning prompts rather than a ranking of human worth or maturity. Any reader can explore any court role; the title does not determine a person's gender, age, appearance, or profession.
Combine the role with the suit
A Page of Swords might invite curious questions about an idea, while a Knight of Swords might invite examination of how quickly that idea is being pursued. Ask what each approach helps and what it could overlook. A Queen of Pentacles can prompt practical care without identifying a particular woman. A King of Cups can invite steadiness around feelings without claiming to reveal another person's emotional state.
Use context to choose an interpretation
In a useful-action position, a court card may describe an approach you could try. In a challenge position, the same approach might be overused or difficult to access. If you connect a card with a real person, treat that connection as your interpretation and check it against their own words. Do not infer secret intentions from a court card or use it as a substitute for a conversation.
