A practice map for shuffling and choosing cards. Read the explanation below, then try the exercise.

Set up before selecting cards

Choose the question, spread positions, and whether you will read reversals before drawing. This gives each card a job and reduces the temptation to change the rules after seeing an uncomfortable image. Clear a surface and check that your deck is complete for the method you intend to use. No special object, spoken formula, or purchased accessory is required for this learning exercise.

Choose a method that works for your hands

You can use an overhand shuffle, gently mix cards face down on a table, or select from a face-down fan. Choose a method that suits your grip and the condition of the deck; do not force a difficult shuffle. If physical handling is inconvenient, you can enter known cards or use the website's virtual reader. Different selection methods do not establish different levels of spiritual accuracy.

Keep the selection and record the method

Once you choose the cards, keep that selection while interpreting. A second draw can become a new exercise, but it does not cancel the first or provide stronger evidence. If a card falls out while shuffling, you can return it or include it according to a rule chosen in advance. Note the method alongside the reading so you can understand how the result was produced when reviewing it later.

Try it yourself

Write a one-sentence question and select Daily Reflection. Decide upright-only or reversals, choose a comfortable mixing method, and draw one card. Record the method and one observation. Finish after that card, even if the interpretation remains uncertain; use the library to study it before starting another exercise.

Check your understanding

When should you choose the spread and reversal rule?

  1. Before drawing the cards.
  2. After seeing whether the result feels reassuring.
  3. Only after drawing three clarifying cards.

Before drawing the cards.

Choosing the method in advance gives the interpretation a consistent frame. Changing it to obtain a preferred result makes later reflection less useful.
